Kitchenaid Stand Mixer Giveaway

in Giveaways

Brought to you by the Number 4:

The 90th Anniversary Edition Kitchenaid Stand Mixer. It’s beautiful in all it’s candy apple redness. And shiny. And it’s the sparkliest way I know how to say thank you for reading.

When I started blogging 4-ish years ago, I had no idea how to operate a camera. I could turn it on, take a picture, and transfer them to my laptop. That’s it. The early days of this blog are full of blurry, poorly lit and embarrassingly composed shots. Now, when I take pictures of my 9-month old, I often get what I’ve learned to be the ultimate mom-with-a-camera compliment:

What kind of camera do you have?!

Ha! Although to be fair, someone has yet to ask me what kind of oven I have :) I keep telling myself that I’m going to go back and replace those photos… but until someone figures out how to bottle and sell extra free time, it remains only a dream. But you don’t care about my ramblings – let’s get to the mixer giveaway!

All you have to do is tell me, what are some of the best things you’ve eaten or cooked in the last month. Or year. Maybe it was a super fancy dinner out. Maybe it was a super juicy, last-of-season peach. Or maybe it was an early Monday morning run to Chick-fil-A after having wicked chicken biscuit withdrawals on Sunday. (I should start a support group because I know I’m not the only one!)

And since that really only takes care of one entry, just stop by Nd say hi for the rest of the week.

Giveaway details:

  • The giveaway will be open for entry from now until Thursday, 11/4/10 at 11:59pm central.
  • One entry per person. And don’t forget to leave a valid email address – no email, no winner notification! (Nothing funky happens with your email as a result of commenting. It’s also not visible to the public. Pinky swear!)
  • The winner will be chosen at random by one of those cold, unfeeling random number generator sites.
  • The winner will be announced here (and emailed) on Friday, 11/5/10.
  • Want two extra chances to win Big Red up there? Follow me on Facebook and Twitter (simply leave an extra comment to let me know)

That’s it! Couldn’t be any easier. Or better. Unless it came complete with a tall pitcher of ice cold margarita. And a straw.

Oh my! Love the mixer! And congrats on 4 years!

15 Lauren Davis October 28, 2010 at 1:57 pm

The best thing I’ve had in the past week actually is the tiramisu at Spaghetti Warehouse in Memphis. I’m not a coffee fan at all, but this mix of delicate lady fingers, creamy marscapone, sweet chocolate, and bitter coffee just makes me weak in the knees!

16 Lauren Davis October 28, 2010 at 2:00 pm

I’m following you on Facebook and Twitter!

17 duchessbelle October 28, 2010 at 2:01 pm

A caramel apple from my favorite orchard. So yummy I’m contemplating the four hour round trip just so I can get another one :)

18 Anne October 28, 2010 at 2:01 pm

The best thing I’ve eaten recently was an onion/black eyed pea/brown rice/creamed spinach/chicken dutch-oven concoction that I made last night with a friend. Hopefully I can re-create it this weekend, because it was awesome.

19 Dawn October 28, 2010 at 2:01 pm

My sweet mother-in-law made an incredible Italian dinner for me and my family on my birthday.

20 Amy October 28, 2010 at 2:03 pm

Love the blog and all the yummy recipes! One of my favs this month; mini chicken pot pies. Made with sweet potatoes, it was delicious and froze wonderfully for easy dinners later!

21 Nass October 28, 2010 at 2:04 pm

We made breakfast for dinner with eggs and bacon and tomatoes – it was somehow the most satisfying dinner I have had in a week or two!

22 Sandy Minter October 28, 2010 at 2:05 pm

It’s beautiful, I hope I win!

23 Jennifer October 28, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Congratulations on 4 years! I’ve been a silent follower for the last 6 months or so and I love your recipes.

As a fellow Texan, I absolutely adored your flour tortilla recipe and my other favorite is definitely the lemon chicken spaghetti, yum!

24 laurie October 28, 2010 at 2:06 pm

Best thing I have baked this month was pumpkin loaf from my Gram Kennedy’s Huntsville Heritage Cookbook. Loved it.

25 Spring October 28, 2010 at 2:06 pm

Ohhhh dear, I could go on for hours… but some of the best things I have eaten lately, are: these to die for pumpkin spice cookies, chicken enchiladas, huge onion rings, zuchinni stuffing casserole, and peanut butter cupcakes!

26 Andrea October 28, 2010 at 2:06 pm

egg, bacon and cheese breakfast biscuits (which the kiddo fondly call egg cups) YUM!

27 aria October 28, 2010 at 2:07 pm

A ginger martini is sticking out in my brain as pretty memorable! Cheers on 4 years!

28 Laura October 28, 2010 at 2:07 pm

One of the best things I’ve eaten this month was a strawberry and pineapple skewer, drizzled in melted choclate, sprinkled with nuts and served on a banana leaf! Yum!

29 kira October 28, 2010 at 2:07 pm

This week I had the BEST mile-high apple pie made from apples picked by my 3 year old son at the farm last weekend!

30 Regina October 28, 2010 at 2:08 pm

I just ate a Lifesaver. A pineapple one. =)

31 Rebecca October 28, 2010 at 2:08 pm

Wow…do you even know what a hard question that is?! Since I plan to comment more than once, I’ll start with the sourdough bread I’ve been making (and making and making) since this past March. Ah-MAZING.

A couple weeks ago I made a variation of Shepherd’s Pie (based on this recipe: http://kellycooks.wordpress.com/2010/10/03/shepherds-pie/) and oh my goodness was it the best thing I’ve eaten in a while! It was simple to make, didn’t dirty too many dishes and heated up for wonderful leftovers! A huge winner in my book!

Thanks for the chance to win and congrats on 4 great years!

36 Candice October 28, 2010 at 2:11 pm

The best thing I have made this month is a melt in your mouth coconut curry dinner, for my friends and family. They loved it!

37 KIM October 28, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Am I first? =)

The best thing I’ve eaten this week was about 2 lbs of grapes, 1/2 of a 7 Layer Dip and a bag of red bell peppers.. I blame it on being pregnant =)

38 Candice October 28, 2010 at 2:11 pm

I am following you on facebook as well!

39 Anne October 28, 2010 at 2:12 pm

Congrats on 4 years! Your blog is fabulous – you should be so proud! As for the best thing I’ve eaten this month…it has to be the new recipe for roast chicken I tried – cream cheese and herbs stuffed under the skin made for one divine dinner!

40 Eliza October 28, 2010 at 2:12 pm

Hmm, let’s see… Luckily, since I have all week to comment, I don’t have to choose just one – yay! The roasted broccoli from pinchmysalt was pretty fantastic. I highly recommend it.

41 Cassie October 28, 2010 at 2:12 pm

Happy Blogiversary and great giveaway! The best thing I cooked recently was either apple cinnamon cupcakes with honey buttercream frosting or a bacon, fig and balsamic pizza. Delicious.

42 Cassie October 28, 2010 at 2:13 pm

I am not following you on facebook

43 Melissa McGregor October 28, 2010 at 2:13 pm

Hmm…the best thing I’ve eaten…definitely has to be some brown butter cookies straight out of the oven. Barely baked. With cracks. Super doughy. And nutty. Oh, and the chocolate…
:)

44 Eliza October 28, 2010 at 2:13 pm

Oh, and I also just started following you on facebook. I would follow you on twitter, but I don’t have one… :)

45 steph October 28, 2010 at 2:15 pm

I’ve been super sick with this head and chest cold for the last 6 days so I’ve been eating Spicy Chicken Chili – white beans, chicken thighs, 1/2 onion, lots of garlic, jar of salsa verde, poblano and habanero peppers in the crock pot for 6 hours.

I know I probably won’t win. First posts never do in these things, but really, just talking about the chicken chili is worth it.

46 Jessica October 28, 2010 at 2:15 pm

One of the best things I’ve eaten this month was a grilled pizza with ricotta, spinach, and tomato. Grilling pizza is new to me but I’m having a ball trying a variety of toppings.

47 Katrina Deaton October 28, 2010 at 2:16 pm

I have been winging it with my meals. Came up with a beef and pepper stew type thing that was great.

48 Anne Marie October 28, 2010 at 2:16 pm

One of the best things I’ve eaten in the past month is sugar donut muffins. They were delicious!

49 Lyndsey October 28, 2010 at 2:16 pm

I am glad I can comment more than once, because there is no way I could pick just one yummy thing I have eaten or made! This past weekend I made delicious margarita cupcakes, they were sooooo yummy (and had actual tequila in them, bonus)! Happy anniversary!

50 Vanessa October 28, 2010 at 2:17 pm

We went to The Old Pinke House in Savannah last week. Everything we had was DIVINE! Southern Sushi, Pork Tenderloin, Almond Crusted Tilapia with some delicious shrimp… all AMAZING!

51 Stephanie October 28, 2010 at 2:17 pm

The best thing I’ve had this past month would have to be my pumpkin cheesecake.

52 Charlotte October 28, 2010 at 2:17 pm

Hey!
Firstly, congratulations, big time! It takes a lot of patience to maintain a food blog!

Secondly, this is an awesome giveaway, it has been sort of a dream of mine to even get the chance to look at one of these mixers.

Oh, and the best thing I’ve eaten this month was some awesome springrolls I made from scratch. It is a hellishly long process because I like and want them small and very pretty, but it is definitely worth it.

53 Amy October 28, 2010 at 2:18 pm

My favorite thing I ate was meatloaf this past week. There is something so yummy about eating good old fashion comfort food

The best thing I ate was a few months ago when I just moved into my very first apartment. I was in the mood to eat something wonderful and delicious. So I made a 4 layered lasagna with seasoned ground chicken, layered with portobello mushrooms and 2 types of cheese – monterrey jack and cheddar cheese. It was absolutely perfect and wonderfully delicious. I only gave my really good friend a piece of it and she begged me to make another. :-) I have to admit though after enjoying that perfectly sized lasagna for about a week I quickly settled into my apartment and made it my own.

57 Kelly October 28, 2010 at 2:19 pm

I made pumpkin spice cupcakes filled and toped with cream cheese frosting. They were ammmaaazing!

58 heather palmer October 28, 2010 at 2:19 pm

We mastered the grilled pizza this summer and paired it with tons of fresh salads from our CSA, and it was a glorious summer of grilling and playing and eating in the backyard.

78 Wendy J October 28, 2010 at 2:28 pm

81 Jill October 28, 2010 at 2:30 pm

A friend made a homemade asiago spinach dip at a Halloween party last weekend, and I have been craving it daily since!!!

86 kitty October 28, 2010 at 2:35 pm

best thing this month: a fancypants dinner with a new boyfriend — we ordered two things we both wanted, and split, halfway through the meal. we had the duck breast and the beef medallions. and we fell for each other.

87 Ursula Page October 28, 2010 at 2:36 pm

I would have to say a crab cake benedict that I had in Ponte Vedra, FL. It was wonderful….. :)

88 Harmony October 28, 2010 at 2:36 pm

The best thing I have eaten this month would have to be…crockpot chicken tacos. Yummy.

89 Harmony October 28, 2010 at 2:36 pm

I had a filet last weekend and it was absolutly wonderful! I am not normally a steak gal, but it was so so good =)

91 Megan October 28, 2010 at 2:37 pm

Have to say that the 150 cups of caramel corn that I made for my wedding favors is the favorite thing that I’ve made. I always knew it was the beginning of fall when my Mom made caramel corn so what better way to celebrate the beginning of being husband and wife then by making some for all of our guests!

92 Jenn Vincent October 28, 2010 at 2:37 pm

One of the best things I’ve eaten in the last month was some skirt steak that I marinated in apple cider vinegar, onions and jalapenos (among many other things). My husband grilled it perfectly and it was juicy and super tasty.

93 Jenn Vincent October 28, 2010 at 2:37 pm

My boyfriend made some bomb crab cakes for my parents this last weekend! Yum.

96 Leslie S. October 28, 2010 at 2:39 pm

The absolute best meal I’ve had in the last year was in South Padre, Texas. We went there on vacation this past July and ate at a place called The Sea Ranch. I don’t like seafood, so I had a filet mignon. Best steak ever! It literally melted in my mouth.

97 St.Ar October 28, 2010 at 2:40 pm

Holy-awesomeness-giveaway! I can’t believe I haven’t justified the cost of one of these yet, but I would be over the moon to win this! The best things I’ve cooked over the past year all involve my Lebanese in-laws. I make a mean kefta now and couldn’t be happier to have my mother-in-law teach me her tricks of the kitchen. I pray to the cold random-number generator machine to pick me! PS: I love your blog and happy bloggie anniversary party!

98 Melissa October 28, 2010 at 2:40 pm

I recently discovered I like sushi this year, so I would have to say that! It had crab, craw fish, asparagus, and cream cheese then the whole thing was tempura with a spicy sauce on top.

99 Bika October 28, 2010 at 2:41 pm

Congratulations on your fourth year! I found your site a couple months ago and it’s awesome. Here’s to another four, and even more :)

AND the best thing I ate this month was a sweet pumpkin muffin with cream cheese icing I made for my hubby and some visiting friends.

100 Jenn Jones October 28, 2010 at 2:41 pm

The best thing I have ate this month is Chicken BBQ pizza. It was on homemade pizza dough topped with chicken, 2 kinds of cheese, BBQ sauce, cilantro and red onion. It looked beautiful and it tasted amazing :)

The best thing I’ve eaten this month? Perhaps simple black beans cooked in a crock pot with a ham hock. I just don’t get it. How can something that simple and haphazardly thrown together taste THAT GOOD? I don’t know, but there’s a second batch simmering away in my kitchen right now. :)

107 Blaire October 28, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Bronzed scallops!

108 Sonja October 28, 2010 at 2:44 pm

I know you are in the Htown area…well I also have a 9 month old and got a super cute picture of her on the outdoor couch at Tiny Boxwood’s…while I ate my cookie.

And I would love Big Red.

151 Tracy Fisher October 28, 2010 at 3:34 pm

I just started my web/blog and you are one of my favorites! As far as something good? I have 2 things!….
1) In honor of my son’s birthday (turning 10 on Halloween), I always mix a bag of BRACHS CANDY CORNS and a can of PLANTERS COCKTAIL PEANUTS in a bowl. If you were to close your eyes and eat them together you would think you are eating a PayDay candybar!!!
2) Most requested recipe from my kids friends… mini sliders… I use ground chuck and sirloin mix. Mix in worcestershire and s&p. BBQ. Top with cheese (kids like cheddar. adults like crubled blue cheese). Put into a Hawaiian Sweet Roll with a little mayo, ketchup and finely shredded lettuce. And watch the plate dissapear! I might have to blog these recipes this week myself :).
Tracy
ps.. I love that mixer. I still use an old white hand mixer we got for our 1993 wedding. Wouldn’t that be a treat!!!!

152 Samantha October 28, 2010 at 3:35 pm

My favorite thing this month is pumpkin fluff! It is so easy, and great for all those Halloween parties coming up this weekend. Take a tub of cool whip, one box of powdered vanilla sugar, 1 can of puree pumpkin, and 1 tsp of pumpkin pie spice. Stir. Then serve alongside gingersnaps, apples, and graham crackers!

I have been on a diet since July, so when I splurge on a great dinner out, it better be worth it. I was at the beach during the first week in October and had lunch at one of my favorite restaurants: The Ruddy Duck in Morehead City, NC. I had one of their lunch specials that day and an unbelievable appetizer. I started with the crab and spinach dip with pita points. It is hands down the best crab dip or spinach dip I’ve ever had. I followed that up with the chicken burrito filled with melted cheese, juicy chicken, black beans, Mexican rice, and pico de gallo. It was incredible and the biggest burrito I’ve ever seen (probably almost 2 pounds, so I had a ton of leftovers). If you’re ever in that area, go to that restaurant!

It might seem insignificant, but those three ingredient peanut butter cookies (you know, with peanut butter, an egg, and sugar); after not being allowed to have desserts of any kind for two months due to medical reasons, eating these was pure heaven. ? They probably weren’t fabulous to a passerby, but to me, they were the best cookies in the world! >__<

Congrats on the anniversary! :]

226 Allison October 28, 2010 at 6:11 pm

Mmmmm…I’ve been craving Cyclone Anaya’s Alambre Al Carbon with a sangria swirl margarita since we took our in-laws there. The best thing I have had to eat this month. I love this because it made me think back. I wish it was something with pumpkin in it but, I have made several pumpkin flops this season. Boo! The best thing was a cheeseburger at the W hotel last weekend with my husband and no kids. Not sure it was really the cheeseburger or just the day itself that made the meal memorable. Love your blog!

I’ve been super lazy and eating out lately and I just got sick of it, so I spluged on really good seafood and made a great seafood pasta for dinner last night with plenty of leftovers for lunch… it was so good and may have kick started my cooking again after a bit of a lull… :)

451 maggie October 29, 2010 at 12:24 pm

Hmm…probably any of the pumpkin treats I’ve made lately in celebration of fall. I’ll go with the pumpkin cupcakes :)

They were a hit with the boys. ;-)

The best food I have had in a long time was a scallop dish that I had at a French restaurant at Kierland in Scottsdale, AZ. They are one of my favorite foods, but these scallops were especially delicious propped artistically on a glob of delicious risotto with chorizo (weird, but insanely delish combo with the scallops) and two swirls of sauce on the plate that were unidentifiable but delicious.

I would have to say that the best thing I have eaten this past month is Asian Turkey Meatballs. They were AMAZING! They were juicy, full of flavor and best of all quick and easy to make.

Love the mixer!

901 Alicia November 1, 2010 at 9:06 pm

You. Are. My. Hero. You. Are. My. Husband’s. Hero. We grew up in Arkansas, where every singe Mexican restaurant served amazing cheese dip. We have since moved to California and when I try and explain the amazingness that is cheese dip everyone just gives me a blank stare. We have tried so many cheese dip recipes that claim to be “just like the restaurant”. All have failed miserably. We just made your queso blanco and oh my, you are our hero!!! It has exactly the right texture and exactly the right taste. We added cayenne pepper, salt, and a touch of garlic powder. I need to do a little bit of tweaking with the seasonings to get to the exact taste I remember, but we were eating it right out of the pot. Thank you, thank you.

902 Barb November 1, 2010 at 9:07 pm

The best thing I’ve eaten lately that I haven’t made would have to be some awesome pasta I had at a pasta place somewhere near St. Louis (we were in town for a friend’s wedding). It had chicken, wheat penne, mushrooms, and a killer wine sauce. Wish I could figure out the secret to making it!

The best thing I’ve made recently would be pumpkin cheesecake cookies, in the dessert department. Hot and Sour tofu & chicken soup was also pretty yummy. :)

1125 Bec November 2, 2010 at 9:11 pm

Hey, what kind of oven do you have? (wink)

And as for the yummiest food I’ve eaten recently: my neighbor brought over some homemade French bread, and MY GOSH it was awesome! I’d really, really like to make my own bread, but I’m intimidated by the process. It seems to me (really, though) that a KitchenAid Stand Mixer will cure me of said intimidation. I hope I get a chance to test out that theory! :)

Thanks!

Ooh candy apples, how perfectly seasonal! The best thing to come out of my kitchen lately is probably the garlic cheese bread I made the other day. I didn’t have a loaf, so I sliced some buns in half and pressed them between two cookie sheets with a cast iron dutch oven. I mushed up the butter with lots of crushed garlic, parsley and pepper, and I sprinkled a bit of mozza on top. They were so good!

My sister has a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer and I’m so jealous of her. It seems to make all of her baking that much easier to do. I’d love to win this and make my own baking easier since I’m known as the girl that bakes at work and within my fiance’s family these days!

Love the sassy red color of this mixer- this has been on my wishlist for a long long time :)

I love the red one! I still use my mom’s avocado green mixer from the 1970s. If that doesn’t say much about the life of a kitchen aid mixer, I don’t know what does!

Hello!

I had the most incredible mini broccoli-cheddar quiche for dinner last night. The bakery I got it from is somewhat hit or miss with their items, so I was happy to discover this was definitely a hit.

I would love to win this!
I have taken up baking cupcakes and the 20+ year old hand mixer is just not doing it for me.

I just made one of my favorites: homemade caramel corn! It was so good and addicting…I can’t stop eating it!

1158 Blaire November 3, 2010 at 6:39 am

I made some fried rice for the first time last night!

Last weekend, I made a vegetarian lasagna INSIDE a pumpkin! I got the idea and recipe from a site called Crepes of Wrath. I just discovered your site today from a picture you posted on FoodGawker and I love it! Keep it up!!

Jamaican grilled chicken thighs with grilled plantains last night were delicious. The only bad thing was my thigh was too small.

delicious cocktails with friends last night :)

Leaving my daily greeting for Mr. Mixer!

Also, the comment just above is cracking me up “The only bad thing was my thigh was too small.” Don’t hear that much.

A truly decadent lobster mac and cheese. In fact, I think I’m going to have it again soon! Had it at a restaurant, but maybe I should try my hand at recreating it!

Thanks!

My daughter’s birthday was this month, so I made a lot of sweets! Lemon sour cream cupcakes with strawberry cream cheese icing. They were yummy!
