KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer, Onyx

It’s shiny. Sleek and shiny. Shiny. And since most of you aren’t close enough to come by and help us finish off a Peanut Butter Cup Tart or taste-test our latest brew experiment (a Blue Moon knockoff), it’s the second best way we know to thank you for making our little project so fun.

We’ve recently redesigned the site to be more functional and we’re almost finished with the Recipe Index so that every single recipe is easy to see and find. And even better – there will be chances to grab some fun foodie swag!

We’ve met some amazing people – photographers, bloggers, cookers, cakers, and writers over the last nearly 5 years. I still get just as excited when we get a comment today as I did the day we broke double-digits on page views back in late 2006 – it was a very exciting record of 11! So we say “thank you” with some of that fun foodie swag: a sleek and shiny KitchenAid 5qt Artisan Stand Mixer (Onyx).

To enter, simply leave a comment on this post and tell us: What will be the first thing you’d bake with a new mixer?
– One comment per person.
– (Optional) You can earn two extra entries by:

    - Leaving an additional comment saying that you’ve liked us on Facebook
    - Leaving an additional comment saying that you’ve followed us on Twitter

– Giveaway runs through 11:59pm (Texas time!) Saturday, 4/16.
– Winner will be selected by one of those cold, soulless, unfeeling random number generator thingies on Sunday and announced here.
– Due to freight limitations, prize can only be shipped within North America.

Best of luck!

What wouldn’t I make?! Actually probably a chocolate chip cookie recipe I have that is super thick and too difficult with a hand mixer (pretty sure I burnt one out making it before) but they are soooo good!!

Have a good day!

81 Intisar April 11, 2011 at 5:57 am

I would make croissants!! I’ve been wanting to make them for 5 YEARS!! Now that I have the space and with the help of the the beautiful mixer I would be well on my way!

83 Jerod April 11, 2011 at 6:00 am

Walnut Potica!

84 Amanda H April 11, 2011 at 6:00 am

I’d make a cranberry upside down cake — the recipe requires more mixing and egg-beating than most do, so it would be much easier with a mixer than a wooden spoon and hand mixer! :)

85 Erin April 11, 2011 at 6:02 am

I would let my future sister-in-law pick the first recipe because I would give it to her for her wedding present! She has always wanted one and I wish I could afford it myself for her!

98 Ni April 11, 2011 at 6:16 am

Oh, which recipe to start with? My stand mixer broke, and I’ve been having to use a hand held one for the past couple of months (multiple extremely expensive misc expenses have kept me from being able to purchase a new mixer). I would say a very time consuming, but well worth it, pound cake recipe that was handed down to me by my great-grandmother. They must have had arm muscles like Popeye back then! :)

99 Liesel April 11, 2011 at 6:16 am

Sugar cookies!! Royal icing is a pain by hand.

100 Amelia April 11, 2011 at 6:18 am

Amaretto chocolate cake. I had to make this almost a dozen times before I got the recipe right. One of those utterly chocolate dense cakes that falls to pieces at the touch of a knife. Evil and yet so good :)

101 Francesca April 11, 2011 at 6:18 am

Sugar Cookies! I’ve never made them and have always said that when I get a stand mixer I will make them!! Yummy! I’m excited to focus on the royal icing detail! Sugar Cookies are soooo pretty! :)

102 Annette D April 11, 2011 at 6:21 am

I would totally make chocolate chip cookies! :) YUM!!

103 Stacey April 11, 2011 at 6:21 am

104 Jourdan April 11, 2011 at 6:21 am

I would make angle food cake for my upcoming bday! Yummy!

105 Katie B April 11, 2011 at 6:22 am

I actually already have a KitchenAid and love it, so I’d be overjoyed to win this for my in-laws. My MIL is the best cook I know, but they’d never spend the money on themselves for one of these. I bet she’d make bread in it. :)

What a great giveaway! Thank you. If I won, I would make these cookies as soon as I got the stand…

Giant Chewy Lemon Sugar Cookies
Makes about 20 cookies

Ingredients
2 ¼ cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
1 cup sugar
zest of 1 lemon
1 egg
1/3 cup coarse sugar (plain, granulated sugar works if it’s all you have)

Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. Sift the flour, salt and baking soda together.
3. Cream the butter, 1 cup of sugar and lemon zest until very smooth. Add the egg and continue to beat until fluffy. Pour in the dry ingredients and mix until just combined — you don’t want to overmix.
4. Spread the remaining 1/3 cup sugar onto a shallow plate. Form balls out of the cookie dough 2 inches in diameter and roll them through the sugar. Arrange on a cookie sheet 4 inches apart — these spread!
5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until just the edges are golden. The tops of the cookies should remain pale. Cool completely on the cookie sheets before removing to a plate.

357 Franci April 11, 2011 at 10:57 am

360 heather April 11, 2011 at 10:58 am

We have a trusty KitchenAid mixer already, so I would have to gift this to my mother, who’s still using elbow grease to mix everything. Without a doubt the first thing she would use it for is her kringle dough. I just hope I’d be around to eat some of the output!

Cheers,

*Heather*

I could so use a new kitchenaid mixer. Mine hasn’t been the same since our first move across the country. We’ve since moved cross country two more times.

The first thing I would make with a new kitchenaid mixer is a loaf of homemade bread. My last loaf of bread almost killed my current mixer. :-(

Where to start…I’ve been in a baking mood lately, can’t get enough. Finding time is the problem. So, I have to say…scones with devonshire cream and jam…served with a nice cuppa tea. I’d invite friends for a tea party and use the mixer as my centerpiece to celebrate the new addition to my kitchen family. :0)
Thanks for the opportunity. I just found your site and greatly look forward to exploring it more.

My husband would be the first to use it to make his fluffy, white, melt-in-your-mouth buttermilk bread. It would work so well that he’d then have to use it to make his sourdough (he has homemade starter already…started). Then I’d finally get to make molasses cookies.

ICE CREAM! I have a stand mixer that I adore. It was passed down from my mom when I got married. Unfortunately, it’s on its last leg. My ice cream attachment will no longer work because the bearings are so far off center that the beater won’t stay connected to the head. It’s tragic. I’m going to have a hard time letting my old faithful friend go, but I suppose I might be able to ease my sorrows with a batch of homemade ice cream from a new shiny Kitchen Aid.

The very first thing I would make would be Pineapple Cupcakes with a Coconut-Rum Frosting.. makes me think of sitting on the beach with a Pina Colada!

1147 Lady Kyle April 14, 2011 at 5:47 am

OH man! I would use that thing until it died. The very first thing I would make would be a giant batch of Cowboy Cookies for the 20 crazy 3 year olds I teach at my preschool. This mixer would be worth it’s weight in gold at my house…not to mention it would make me the most popular teacher at school!!

1148 amelia baker April 14, 2011 at 6:05 am

I would whip some egg whites because that makes me so happy- so pretty, and then bake an angel food cake to top with strawberries. Then have some friends, and my brother over to eat it and admire my new toy!
