Adam Pearson, Food Stylist

The highlight of day 4 was the Food Styling and Photography session by Matt Armendariz and Adam Pearson. We discussed styling: plating, structuring, crumbs, and magical dollops. We discussed styling tools: eye droppers, skewers, paint brushes, kitchen torches, museum wax (to hold utensils in place on plates), and Polygrip (to hold food items in place that might otherwise slide down or fall over).

I’m not sure what was the most fun experience at Food Blog Camp today… getting the chance to capture some of Grand Velas’ most talented head chefs in action, in beautiful, perfect natural light. Having the White on Rice Couple pay us a huge compliment via twitter (squee!). Hearing David, Elise, and Jaden speak on the finer points of blogging. Or getting to experience the fantastic community that is food blogging.

It’s a good thing I don’t have to pick just one! Today’s Food Blog Camp agenda involved the business of blogging and other technical aspects before getting back to the artsy stuff. Continue Reading…

9am comes earrrrly when you go to bed late… and then you lay in bed because you’re too excited about the next day’s photography workshop to sleep.

Diane Cu and Todd Porter of White on Rice Couple led the first photography workshop, Using Natural Light and Its Movement, on Day 2 of Food Blog Camp. After the presentation, we were turned loose on a gigantic table of fruit, vegetables, breads, and other baked goodies to experiment with shooting in natural light.
